Meet 3 Female Leaders in Insurance

Leadership, Personal Lines, Small Commercial Lines, Talent and Culture

According to a new study from Safeco Insurance and Liberty Mutual Insurance, 60% of employees in agencies are women, yet, they are underrepresented in leadership roles.

The report also found that 1 in 4 female frontline staff don’t feel they are given equal opportunity in their agency and more than one-third of female agency principals say they are often the only woman in the room.

Across the U.S. workforce, women earn 84% of what men earn, according to Pew Research Center, and the disparity is even greater in insurance with female insurance producers earning 68% of what male producers earn, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. Further, Liberty Mutual and Safeco’s research found that 64% of women in frontline agency staff roles feel they are paid somewhat less or significantly less than their male peers.

On this episode of Agency Nation Radio, we meet three women who are leaders in the independent agency channel. These women’s accomplishments illustrate the opportunities for women in the insurance industry, and their experiences represent the work that remains to be done to achieve parity.

This episode features insight on women in the channel from Liz Nguyen, Vertafore’s first female CTO; Crista Walker, vice president of agent engagement at Liberty Mutual and Safeco; and Kate Ferri Dawson, President of Ferri Dawson Insurance Group in Murrysville, Pennsylvania.
