Insurance is a career I wholeheartedly encourage everyone to consider, especially women and members of minority communities. As CEO and managing partner at Breezy Seguros, I am continuously inspired by the creativity and human connection I experience in this industry. I want others to have the same opportunity.
Whether you are new to insurance or aspiring to agency leadership, here are my top insights for cultivating a meaningful and successful career.
Take the initiative to drive change
The insurance industry is rich with opportunities to positively impact people’s lives while growing your business. When you identify a gap, you will never regret taking action to bridge it.
For me, that opportunity was empowering Hispanic and immigrant communities across New England. Having moved to the United States from Puerto Rico, I have firsthand experience with the language and cultural barriers that many in our community face when accessing insurance. Determined to address these challenges, I spearheaded the development of a custom AMS/CRM platform for Breezy Seguros — available in English, Spanish, and Portuguese — seamlessly integrating sales, customer service, marketing and education.
This innovation has been a resounding success, driving 200–300% year-over-year growth and achieving a retention rate over 90%. With U.S. Latino purchasing power recently surpassing $3.78 trillion, according to the 2024 LDC Latino GDP Report™, this platform has not only given us a competitive edge but, more importantly, has allowed us to serve our customers with authenticity and care.
Create opportunities for others
In this business, you gain profound insight into what people value and seek to protect. But you also learn what they aspire to build. What resources can you offer to help those in your community realize their full potential?
Education and outreach have always been foundational to our agency’s culture. At Breezy Seguros, we have developed an EdTech and Insurtech platform designed to train the next generation of insurance professionals. As a staunch advocate for diversity, equity and inclusion, I am committed to increasing representation for women and Latino professionals in our industry.
Yet, I recognize that insurance is not everyone’s calling — and that’s okay. My broader mission is to make Breezy Seguros a community hub, supporting micro-businesses, hosting local events and providing Hispanic and immigrant entrepreneurs with the tools they need to grow their businesses and build generational wealth.
Integrate your life and work
Work-life balance remains a pressing topic, and I understand firsthand the challenges many in this industry face, particularly women navigating both career and family responsibilities.
My approach has been to blend my personal and professional worlds in a way that feels authentic. Instead of compartmentalizing my life, I bring more of myself into the workplace.
If I have a work event on the weekend, I bring my daughter along, using it as an opportunity to teach her the value of hard work and meaningful relationships. If a family commitment arises during the workweek, I step away with confidence, knowing my dedicated team will ensure every client receives the care they deserve.
Don’t back down — and keep moving forward
This industry comes with its share of challenges. From navigating hard markets to adapting to evolving technologies, success requires continuous learning, innovation and resilience.
My journey has shown me that bold risks often lead to the most rewarding outcomes. Doing the right thing is not always the easiest path, but it is always worth it. As a woman in a traditionally male-dominated field, I have had to bet on myself time and again. I have had to stand firm in my convictions and refuse to back down.
But those moments have defined me. They have reinforced my purpose and solidified my belief in the work we do. Because in the end, what we do matters — it matters that we help people protect what they love, and it matters that every one of us has an equal opportunity to thrive in this industry.
